Let me kick this off with saying that while I have no kids of my own (and also have no desire to have my own) I adore kids. I always get to be fun Aunt Vicki that will rig games in their favour, I never have to discipline them or clean up after them and they can’t make me watch Frozen on repeat all day. Nothing beats it.
I have also always been outspoken on how I think moms are modern day superheroes because my mom is a BOSS. There are so many great things I could say about my own hardworking mama that make me cry if I think about it to much so let’s not go there. I have also been lucky to watch so many of my friends become parents which has deepened my appreciation of parents everywhere.
So for Mother’s Day I wanted to round up a few content creators that I follow that are mamas (plus a special shout out to a single dad) – the title comes from the fact that while all of the people listed talk about being parents none of them should be put into a “mommy blog” box because they cover a variety of other topics. (This is also my way of telling y’all to stay the fuck away from other people and stay inside because I miss my friends with babies, and also the babies, a lot.)
@ALICIAFASHIONISTAAn OG blogger. I’ve been reading Alicia’s blog before Instagram was even monetized. I’ve always loved Alicia’s blog because it always feels like catching up with a girlfriend yet perfectly curated. She provides a real glimpse of her life along with useful recommendations you can actually rely on. Earlier this year she had a beautiful baby girl named Lucy and watching the addition of Lucy content has been such a joy. Much like her blog before Lucy, Alicia still provides insights on her day to day as well as provides suggestions worth checking out. |
@ALIFEWELLCONSUMEDI wouldn’t be the writer I am today if it weren’t for Leslie. She is one of the people who constantly pushes me to give projects my all. Watching her work ethic between running her own business and blogging motivated me to really try and give this blogging thing a go. She’s the first person to ask me to attend events with her and is always game to take photos on Granville Island. Having a baby is no easy feat, having a baby in the midst of a pandemic – damn. But life carries on even when the world is on hold, which is exactly what Leslie did when Rowan was born in the middle of self-isolation. Her content is normally a mix of travel and lifestyle but something tells me we’re going to see a lot more Rowan around soon. I got to see Leslie and Rowan a few days before this picture was taken. At a distance of course! While I was in my apartment, Leslie brought Rowan to the window so I could say hi. I wish I could articulate how hard it is for me to meet a baby and not get to hold them. |
@CAMILLIA_LEEA content creator with a heart of gold! Cam shares primarily lifestyle and fitness content (check out her yoga page for some INTENSE yoga poses) and lately has roped her family into doing hilarious Tik Toks with her. Knowing her IRL makes me appreciate her content so much more because who she is on the Internet is who she is in real life, authentic, curious and kind. I met Cam while she was pregnant so I’ve never known her as not a mother and it’s hard to imagine her any other way. Her IG Stories of the little noises Grey makes and him learning to roll over are some of my favourite because LOOK AT THAT FACE. How could you not be instantly smitten? |
@YOURGIRLNEENSAnother pal of mine that had to have her baby during quarantine times. Nina is a fucking warrior. Truly. She gives everything she does 110% and she’s the type of person you want in your corner. She bares it all to her audience, even when it’s scary to do so. On her YouTube channel and podcast she talked about how she made the choice to not terminate the pregnancy when she found out and in her latest podcast her and her partner (Dejan) delve into Dom Blu’s birth story. That kid might be the luckiest kid in the world because I’ve seen in person how much Nina and Dejan adore one another. Dom Blu is also going to be the coolest kid in the world, because look at his parents. |
@GIRLLOVESGLOSSWhat can I say about Jaime that I haven’t said before? A hard-working stay-at-home her content is mostly beauty and she’s always a go-to when I need makeup recommendations and reviews. Her reviews are through and I can trust that she’ll give me a true assessment of a product instead of catering to what keeps her on PR lists. Every now and again her IG Stories will delve into the rewarding (and also frustrating) moments of being a mother but lately we’re getting extra Everly content. I, for one, am here for it. Every day you can expect to see a video of Everly cheering from healthcare workers with enthusiasm that will absolutely melt your heart. |

@LOVINGLITTLESBLOGKeisha’s blog strikes the perfect balance of being polished yet down to earth. Her blog and Instagram covers DIY projects, travel and raising a family with her husband (who was also her high school sweetheart!) Her blog is one of those blogs that was inspired by motherhood and started up after she had her second, Ella. One of my favourite posts is 40 Things Moms of Boys Say all about her son Owen. Reading it reminded me of the things I would constantly hear my mom say to my brother growing up! |
@JENPISTORJen’s IG bio says that she’s your unofficial mom friend and I have to agree. She is a girl mom with 3 daughters, Madelyn and twins Lily and Sabrina and shares them on social media as well as a lot of my other favourite topics. Jen is a body positive model that loves ethical and sustainable fashion too and has put in the effort to work with local and inclusive brands. She is an amazing example of how your happiness and health are linked to a dress size and her girls are lucky to have such a strong mama. (Also, every picture of Jen reminds me how badly I need my bangs trimmed because hers always look perfect.) |
@AMIDST.THE.CHAOSFull disclosure, out of everyone I have listed Christine is the only one I haven’t met IRL, but I have met Mr. Amidst the Chaos /Chris on a press trip to Calgary and the way he spoke about his family was more than enough for me to want to continue to follow along on their journey online. They have three kids, Leah, Gabe and Jude, and if I am remember correctly there is about a 4 year age gap between the youngest and the oldest. One of the things I love the most about their content is that it’s real and it reminds me a lot of my home growing up. It’s colourful, full of adventure and learning it all as you go. Their photos range from the silly and fun to home decor and food goals all while sharing their life. Just go and look at their images and tell me you’re not impressed. |
@TAYLERMARILESTayler would probably be the first to tell you that she’s not an influencer, but she’s one to me. The founder behind one of my favourite brands, Midnight Paloma, Tayler has a work ethic second to none. We initially connect through our mutual love of clean beauty and local business and have collaborating on a handful of projects in the past. In September 2019 she had Leo, or as I like to call him #babymidnightpaloma. With an eye for vivid photography and the cutest baby boy ever her page is a constant source of joy and I love being able to see Leo as he becomes to develop his personality (plus lots of doggos on her page too!) |

@THEDADDIARIES.CAI would be doing y’all a disservice if I talked about how great moms are and didn’t at least talk about how great single dads are too. Not ever household needs a mother to be full of love, and Joseph proves that in his content. His story of how Stella and Mia came into his life is pretty special. He decided in his 30s that he was ready to become a single father and via surrogacy his twins entered his life. His content covers a variety of parenting tips with the unique perspective of being a single gay father. |
There are so many mamas that deserve recognition. But I did want to take an opportunity to shout out a few in my life that aren’t influencers on the Internet but influential and important to me. Also this post made me realize that I am friends with more babies than I am with single and straight men – y’all problematic.
This post is also for Haley and Ansen, Kaili and Sloan, Jen and Nova, Mel and Kaleo, Jenn and Madi, Jess and Tommy, Jess and Benny, Joanne and Liam, Leah and Kate, Noa and Esme, Miranda and Chiara.
