In 2013, I left small city Lethbridge for (what I thought was the big city) Vancouver with big dreams of making it in fashion school. Little did I know, this city would hook me into staying far longer than I’d planned. Over the years, I’ve done everything the fashion industry could throw at me: retail, merchandising, styling, wardrobing for concert tours, wholesale, and distribution. If it involved clothes, I was there, hustling.
Then came October 2019—the month I got the professional equivalent of a breakup text. My job in fashion wholesale gave me the boot, and while I saw it coming, the sting was real. It hit every insecurity I had about my skills and left me wondering, “Now what?” Instead of diving into whatever came next, I decided to take a step back and rethink everything.
Cue this little blog. What started as a way to fill my time (and keep me from spiraling) turned into something far more meaningful. Before I knew it, this space led me to media event invites—picture me nervously mingling while pretending to be cool—which then connected me with real-deal writers and editors. Fast forward a few years, and here I am: a full-time, paid writer. Essentially, I decided my job should just be never-ending homework. Spoiler: It’s weirdly fun.
A Quick Thank You to the Real MVPs
Let’s not sugarcoat it—I’m probably the world’s most chaotic blogger. I post sporadically, swear liberally, and couldn’t stick to a “brand” if my life depended on it. I just share whatever feels right (including dead dad content), whenever it feels right, and somehow, you’re still here for it.
Every comment, every product you’ve bought based on my recommendations, every DM telling me I made you laugh or think—it all means the world to me. This little corner of the internet, which started as a coping mechanism, brought me to where I am now. While I may not have tens of thousands of followers, my audience is second to none.
So, thank you for being part of this messy, swearing-too-much, figuring-it-out-as-I-go journey. You’ve made this ride far better than I ever imagined. Let’s keep the good times rolling, shall we?
