BODYCARE REVIEW; Venus for Pubic Hair & Skin

What you do or don’t do with your body hair is no business of mine. Keep it all, shave it all, laser some, braid it for all I care, your body hair is just that, yours’. Your gal is the natural type, with a bit of maintenance and that one time I got a Brazilian for the lolz. I usually shave a bit because I like the overall look and feel of it a bit cleaned up, but I don’t often aim to get it all because I am not that kind of bendy and usually don’t shave where I can’t see.

Recently the team at Gillette Venus sent me their new line specifically for pubic hair and skin and I figured, why not try it out? Did I have to use my yoga skills to get in there? Yes. Did I nick myself at all during this? Surprisingly, no. See below for my initial thoughts on the Skin Smoothing Exfoliant, 2-in-1 Cleanser Shaving Gel, Daily Soothing Serum, Hair + Skin Softening Oil and of course, the razor! All of the items are now available and retail for about $20 each.

Skin Smoothing Exfoliant

We’ve all heard horror stories of people using too strong of an exfoliant on their bits, but fret not, Venus has come out with an exfoliant that is gentle enough to use on your most delicate areas. It’s pH balancing, made without parabens, dyes, fragrances and silicones. It’s meant to prep your skin by releasing trapped hairs, smoothing skin’s service and loosen and sweep away dead skin. I found the exfoliant extremely gentle and it has finely milled physical exfoliant that rinses off easily without leaving you with that “just left the beach” feeling of sand in every crevasse.

2-in-1 Cleanser Shaving Gel

For the love of god, please don’t dry shave. Shaving gel/cream is your friend when handling a sharp razor. It adds a protective layer to avoid skin irritation. This 2-in-1 also hydrates and I love that it applies clear to allow you to see where you’re shaving plus I love that it’s made without soup or fragrances so it’s ultra gentle. It also has the same pH as intimate cleansers, but also doubles up as a shaving gel – we love a multitasking moment.

Pubic Hair & Skin Razor

What makes this razor not your average razor? For starters it has a defence bar between the blades to lessen the impact of the blades against your skin and has an additional precision trimmer on the back to reach tricky areas. It’s important to use a different razor on your bits than you do on others parts of your body. The hair on you nether regions tends to be a bit coarser than other body hair and can cause your razor to dull faster and keeping your razor sharp is essential for avoiding ingrown hairs and razor burn. What I love about using Venus razors is that the blade are easily replaceable and all of their current handles and razor heads work with one another.

Daily Soothing Serum

Not all serums are made the same and it’s no surprise that your most sensitive bits can’t use any old serum. The Daily Soothing Serum from Venus helps replenish much needed moisture after shaving and it can also help prevent ingrown hairs. I love that it’s fragrance free and pH balancing plus has lactic acid to chemically exfoliate to smooth your skin. It definitely felt odd the first few times to apply lotion on my WAP but it makes sense that when it comes to moisturizing you should be moisture all of your skin, even your intimate spots. It’s a bit more liquidy than your traditional serum but more lightweight than an oil.

Hair + Skin Softening Oil

Whether you shave a little, a lot or not at all, a softening oil is useful to all. It nourishes and conditions your hair and skin and is the final step for allover maintenance. It boasts a unique blend of 11 plant-based oils that leave a light smooth finish that is fast drying and doesn’t stain your clothes. I feel like a goddamn pashmina down there. Soft AF. Like petting a chinchilla. This was my favourite product of all of the products I tried because it feels so luxe to have an oil for my bits.

Years ago, I dreamed of becoming so “successful” that I could replace everything old or used in her house. But I’ve come to realize, she never needed anything replaced. She doesn’t want a new life. She just lets me add to hers.

Anyone who’s heard me talk about my mom knows she’s the reason I understand gratitude and compassion the way I do. She’s the original project pan queen, the real sustainability influencer in my life and she still teaches me how to make the most of what you have, every single day.

I am not a hiker. Historically, I begrudgingly agree to one hike a year—and even that is usually under 3k, with the promise of brunch after. So when I agreed to the one-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I knew it would be a challenge. But I didn’t realise how hard it would be. I cried out of frustration. I was mad at myself for not being fitter, for not coping better, for not moving faster.

But with the encouragement of Ale, Robert, and the incredible @intrepidtravel crew, I kept going. One shaky, slow, stubborn step at a time. And when I finally walked through the Sun Gate and saw Machu Picchu unfold in front of me? All of it—every tear, every stair, every mental spiral—felt completely worth it.

Truly one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. And yes, I now understand why men everywhere use this view as their dating profile pic. It’s iconic.

When I first moved to Vancouver, I started blogging about the brands I’d discover at craft fairs and pop-ups. What’s so special about markets is that when you buy from a small maker, the person you’re talking to is usually the person who made it.

That’s why public events matter. Sure, I get hundreds of press releases a week—but some of the best finds are the ones that aren’t backed by PR. They’re just passionate people putting their work out there.
