FIRST IMPRESSIONS; Lululemon Selfcare

Picture

Wow. A photo of Lululemon products on a Lululemon mat. What a great content creator thinking through all of her content while creating.

It seems long overdue for Lululemon to introduce selfcare to their athleisure empire so when they launched 4 products last week I promptly headed to one of their locations to check it out. The collection includes a lip balm, dry shampoo, an aerosol spray deodorant and a moisturizer.

Lululemon is one of those brands people love to hate on and I will be the first to admit that I am not always drinking the Lululemonade due to controversial ownership and marketing tactics, however I didn’t want to just jump on the bandwagon and assume that the products weren’t worth the cost without actually trying them.

When I posted a poll on Instagram asking if people would be interested in a review I received dozens of messages that echoed sentiments of hating on Lululemon. “Destroy them” and “UGH, fuck Lululemon” are examples of messages I got. As polarizing as it may be, I had to try to try it for myself to decide. Let me preface this by saying that this line is not what I would call budget friendly at all. This review is solely to review the products and talk about the effectiveness.

Plus they’re selling their products in Sephora and this is available at some fitness studios – say what you will about Lululemon, being sold at Sephora is a BFD.

Sweat Reset Face Moisturizer

Picture

LOL. Like my photo of the SAMPLE I got? My broke-ass was not about to spend $32 on a travel size product.

This was the one item that caused me to hesitate on writing a review because it’s 32 freaking dollars for the travel size moisturizer but I didn’t want to do a review and omit one product. So shoutout to the gal at the Lululemon on West 4th for providing me a sample size because I was not about to drop $82 on four mini products just to review and to my friend, Larissa, for pointing out that I can do a first impression just on a sample size.

The site claims that this is a tri-active formula that instantly rehydrates, cools and rebalances for calm, clear skin. Named “Sweat Reset” because it claims that it helps reset your flushed face back to its pre-workout colour. The formula is ultra-lightweight with a gel-like consistency that soaks into the skin instantly upon application. Does it actually reduce redness? A touch, yes, but I wouldn’t say that it fixes extremely flushed post-spin face.

This moisturizer contains menthyl which gives it a bit of a cooling effect which is great post workout and I found it layered so nicely under makeup. It does contain glycerin for moisture and dimethicone, which is a silicone based polymer. Dimethicone adds to the pore filling effect which a lot of primers have which creates an smooth canvas for foundation and is an effective gentle moisturizer.

Am I going to go buy it? Fuck no, I ain’t rich. But if I was gifted a bottle I would keep it tbh.

Travel size is 0.9 oz for $32
Full size is 1.6 oz for $52

No-Show Dry Shampoo

Picture

When it comes to dry shampoo my standards are pretty high. Since I have dark hair I need a truly invisible formula and because I workout like it’s my job my hair gets greasy AF. The packing is similar to that of the deodorant so I had a couple of close calls (this is my way of suggesting that you don’t store them next to one another.) Superstar ingredients include algae which aids in controlling oil production so ideally your hair becomes less oily over time while argan oil keeps your hair feeling soft.

Goddamn it, I loved this dry shampoo. I surprised myself with how much I like it because it is so costly. I found that the nozzle was *chef kiss* perfect and the spray distributed so evenly in my tresses. The scent was clean but not overbearing and it left no white-cast in my hair. There was a bit of a residual texture added to my hair, but no more than other dry shampoos I’ve tried in the past – if anything it help add some volume and life back into my sweaty hair. I have an extremely sensitive scalp and often find myself scratching my head constantly whenever I have dry shampoo in however this was not the case with the Lululemon dry shampoo.

Holy fuck, did I just stumble onto a new favourite? I think so.

Cost:
Travel size is 2.4 oz for $20
Full size is 8.3 oz for $38

Anti-Stink Deodorant

Picture

Available in two scents, Aloe Lotus (this one smells delicious) and Black Pepper Sandalwood, the Anti Stick Deodorant was the item I was most excited to try because I’ve never tried a spray deodorant before. Some points about it that I like; it is certified as clean beauty on the Sephora website meaning that it’s made without certain ingredients we all should be avoiding (such as sulphates, aluminum and formaldehydes) and with less than 1% of synthetic fragrances.

This is the product I had the least amount of faith in. Finding a deodorant that works for you is extremely personal and it’s one of the few things that I have a hard time recommending to people because we all sweat differently. For myself I stick to natural deodorants because I find that they work best for me and tend to opt out of aerosol cans because they are harder to recycle and they tend to empty quicker.

But does it work? *Shrugs* It works as well as you expect any deodorant to work. Pros include the fact that it leaves no residue, smells delicious, biggest con for me was the fact that I felt like I inhaled half of it while applying it. I will say that I love that it was extremely gentle on my underarms and did not irritate my skin at all however there was nothing stand-out spectacular about it. I will continue to use this because I already bought it but it’s not my preferred method of applying deodorant.

Cost:
Travel size is 2.4 oz for $14
Full size is 4.2 oz for $20

Basic Balm

Picture

Just as the name suggests, this is a basic lip balm. We’re not reinventing the wheel here and it doesn’t take a super new and innovative formula to make an effective lip moisturizer. It applies evenly and lightly while provided a touch of hydration. It has shea butter, jojoba oil and beeswax which helps soften your peckers and soothe the skin.

If you have several dry peeling lips I would not recommend this lip balm because it is (like I said) pretty basic. It does smell like coconuts and is on the lower end cost-wise of the selection of lip balms at Sephora. If you do decide to purchase this I don’t think you’ll be disappointed but I also don’t think you’ll be extremely blown away either.

Cost:
$16
