This weather, right? This cold spell has seriously put my hair in distress because the air has been so cold and dry to the point where I had to switch out both my haircare routine to something that packed a bit more moisture. My normal haircare routine is usually a simple colour-safe shampoo, no conditioner and a couple of spritz of leave-in conditioner for styling. That’s it. When it comes to my haircare routine I keep it simple because my hair is fairly low maintenance (this isn’t because I’m effortlessly cool… this is because I’m lazy.)
Enter Vancouver’s cold spell and my hair immediately turned to straw seemingly overnight and my standard shampoo just wasn’t enough to keep my tresses luscious anymore. The team at Klorane thankfully had my back and my locks in mind when sent me their newest mango butter collection with an emphasis on its’ nourishing and protective properties. The collection includes shampoo, conditioner, a masque and a leave-in cream. I normally would steer clear of haircare products aimed towards those with dry hair as I always worry that it will weigh my hair down, but my hair was a goddamn dry mess.
Shampoo & Conditioner
It was love at first sniff. Truly, the shampoo and conditioner filled my shower with a delicious mango scent the second I opened the cap. The scent alone sold me tbh, both products smell like a biting into juicy mango and I really could not get enough of it. The shampoo gently cleansed my hair without it feeling stripped of all of its’ natural oils. The lather wasn’t super frothy but a little bit goes a long way – I have long thick hair and used a little bit more than a quarter sized amount. The conditioner took me by surprise because it was somehow nourishing without weighing my hair down whatsoever. ($13.99 CAD each)
Treatment Mask
This treatment mask is the real deal when it comes to packing a moisture punch. Think of it as a conditioner but x100 when it comes to nourishing your distresses tresses. It left my hair feeling so soft and shiny without any weight whatsoever. I honestly think I could go swimming in the ocean and this mask would manage to revive my hair. This product is their superstar product from the entire collection – if you’re only going to pick up one item, make it this one. Tip: for an extra intensive treatment wear the mask for 20 minutes wrapped in a hot towel. The heat will help your hair cuticle open up to soak in more product! ($15.49 CAD)
Leave-In Cream
While the treatment mask may have been the most effective product, the leave-in cream is my favourite of the bunch. Because this is a non-rinse formula this is what makes your hair smell delicious. Suitable for use in wet or dry hair the leave-in cream targets split ends while acting as a heat protector with a protective coating on your ends. While nothing can mend split ends, the leave-in cream does a stellar job of preventing new split ends while making sure existing breakage doesn’t get worse. ($13.99 CAD)
The Verdict
Based off the scent alone I would buy this entire collection again. It really had a scent that lingered and I got so many compliments on my “perfume” whenever my hair was freshly washed. There was even a gal that had to stop me after my post-workout shower to ask me what brand I was using. Another big thumbs up from me with Klorane is how easily accessible and wallet friendly it is. It’s sold at Shopper’s and you know I’m all about those Optimum points. I notice that the Klorane is often on sale at Shopper’s so definitely keep an eye out for that (at the time of this post, the line is not currently on sale.) I would also recommend this collection to anyone with sensitive skin or scalp – I normally find that my scalp gets incredibly dry and irritated anytime I switch haircare products but I never seem to have any issues when using Klorane.
