HAIRCARE REVIEW; Luna Nectar Moon Boost Lash & Brow Enhancing Serum

Picture

If you follow me on Instagram (shameless plug HERE) or know me in real life (lucky you), you’ll know that I life for a lush lash. There was an extended amount of time (think years, not months) where I was never seen without my ridiculously over the top lashes because all I really want in life is to look like a Bratz doll.

Asian lashes are known for appearing short because of the way the hair grows. Due to eye shape Asian lashes tend to point straight forward instead of curling up therefore the lash appears less full. So yeah, I became about that false lash life. Then I became one of those annoying people who learned to love a spin class and I had to give up that daily false lash life (insert all the broken heart emojis.) There was no way in hell that any lash glue could survive the sweat storm that is a spin class so false lashes became more of a special occasion type of thing.

So when Luna Nectar reached out to me asking if I would be interested in trying their Moon Boost Lash & Brow Enhancing Serum I was elated to work with a brand and a product that checked off all my boxes. Luna Nectar is a Canadian, 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free, female-run business aimed at providing effective products suitable for a variety of uses. There is a lot of reasons to love Luna Nectar but while I am in the midst of what feels like a lifelong closet purge the fact that their products are versatile is a big selling point for me. As someone who tries out dozens of products every week I am so appreciative of products that can do it all. Why have a dozen products that aid in a dozen different things when you could have one product that does a dozen things?

(Also – another shameless plug because of who I am as a person: tune in to the Luna Nectar’s Instagram story this Sunday as I will be doing an Instagram takeover over on their page showcasing a day in the life of a girl on the go.)

The Claim

I don’t know about y’all, but my lashes shed like crazy! Years of wearing falsies, apply, peeling and reapply glue constantly have left my lashes weak AF. I found myself wearing false lashes regularly because I found that my actual lashes reminded me too much like the guys I’ve dated in the past; embarrassingly overly straight, barely there and doesn’t look good in photos.

The Moon Boost is a serum meant to be applied to the lash line that promises to promote greater length, thickness and longevity for your lashes and brows. Safe for those with lash extensions too, Moon Boost promises to repair and help strengthen your natural lashes which in turn will prolong how long your lash extensions last!

The Packaging

Picture

Pretty standard in terms of applicator and packaging. The applicator is similar to that of a liquid brush tip liner and the packing itself is fair-trade bamboo tubes packaged in recycled papers.

Worth noting as well as that when I received the product all of the packaging it came in was recycled materials and minimal! As someone who receives a lot of products I am painfully aware that my carbon footprint is larger than most so when brands are willing to accommodate my request or are already as eco-friendly as possible it means a lot to me!

They even have an eco-friendly gift wrap option available on their site!

The Value

Luna Nectar tells all the guesswork out by breaking down the math for you on their product page. One tube of Moon Nectar is a three month of supply and as their site states “lash extensions cost around $200 for an initial set, and about a $80 refill every 3-4 weeks.” Broken down monthly at a cost of $75 CAD the serum cost about $25 a month! Plus think of the time you save not having to lay there while your extensions are being applied!

The Results

Picture

My baby lashes before Moon Boost.

Picture

One week later. I feel like my lashes are longer.

I definitely noticed more fullness and density along my lash line that the photos do not do justice. Some of you may be wondering what is a lash/brow serum and what does it actually do? I’ll try my best to get too nerdy with my explanations so to keep it simple this lash serum lengthens the growth cycle of lashes so lashes appear longer and fuller while providing ultra nourishing ingredients that strengthen your lashes over time.

Heavy hitters when it comes to moisturizing, Moon Boost contains aloe vera juice, argan oil, vitamin E and sweet almond oil. Aloe vera is naturally healing (which is why you use it for sunburns!), argan oil and vitamin E are intensely moisturizing, while the sweet almond oil aids in hair growth!

Some key lengthening ingredients include; biotin, which improves infrastructure of hair keratin and bamboo extract, which is a rich source of silica and helps build collagen! The arginine and horsetail extract contained in the formula also helps increase the development of strong hair.

Two weeks later. I feel like my lashes are starting to get fuller.

Picture

Three weeks later. DAMN YO. LOOK HOW FULL.
I tried my best to use it on the daily but I definitely forgot a few nights however it didn’t seem to matter since I still saw results. Not only did I find that my lashes shed less than they normally do but my lashes got so full and thick. Of course my lashes are still poker straight however when I curl them DAMN yo. I’ve never been one to go very long without my false lashes but ever since trying out Moon Boost I can say that this is the longest amount of time I’ve ever gone without falsies (I even skipped mascara some days!)

tl;dr version: When it comes to good for you ingredients the Moon Boost is STACKED.

The Verdict

I love this product a lot and would definitely repurchase in the future! I have fairly sensitive eyes that water easily and this did not irritate my eyes whatsoever. I liked how easy it was to use and it feel nourishing upon application. While the before and after photos don’t do the best job of showcasing the difference I definitely noticed that my lashes were fuller but seemingly shed less. I still wear false lashes on occasions, but I found at the end of the day that when I took off my falsies there were WAY less eyelash hair stuck to the lash glue than before – meaning that not only were my lashes fuller, they were stronger!

ALSO if you made it to the end of this review just a friendly reminder again to just follow Luna Nectar on Instagram and tune in this weekend (Sunday, June 23) for my takeover. Please and thank you.

Also I didn’t know if this should be haircare or skincare. I went with haircare. This probably does not belong in the fine print, hell, this probably doesn’t belong anywhere but I needed you to know that I didn’t know how to classify this review.

If your sunnies are always sliding down your nose If your sunnies are always sliding down your nose and leaving surprise cheek contour… hi, same. 🙃

Turns out it’s a low bridge nose thing (super common for Asian and BIPOC folks), which explains why most frames just… don’t sit right

These from @kaytran_eyewear? They actually stay put. No slipping, no cheek marks, no makeup all over the frames from my high cheekbones doing the most.
