INSTA-HYPED; Biologique Recherche Lotion P50

Let me start off by saying that finding the price of this item was not as simple as a quick Google search because almost all Canadian retailers require you to login/make an account to see prices.  That being said, I am fairly certain the Biologique Recherche Lotion 950 in the 5.1 oz is at least $88.

Woah – that is one pricy skincare product. The Lotion P50 was not a product I was familiar with, prior to receiving it in PR, and apparently I am the only person. This is like the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum or La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream, the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 is an iconic hero product when it comes to bougie skincare.

The Claims

Lotion P50 is an exfoliating and brightening lotion (it’s a toner) that is ideal for dull complexions with hyperpigmented marks, enhancing epidermal renewal and helps regulate melanin sythesis. The Cut called this product “Jesus in a bottle” and fans of the lotion rave about it’s benefits.

Part of the reason why it was so hard for me to find the price online is because it’s only sold by licensed retailers that are spa-certified, that’s how potent it is. The instructions are to lessen it’s potency during the first week by moistening a cotton pad with water first and then using a dry cotton pad after the first week. It also states to pat into your skin and not rub. The version I have is the PIGM 400, formulated for sensitive skin types and with more high-quality ingredients to fight hyperpigmentation in particular.

The Results

So I am always skeptical of pricy items and lofty claims, like erasing pores. My skin has been feeling great lately. Overall my skin’s balance feels more in check and my skin feels healthy. I have been opting for a lighter coverage and my skin is smoother and foundation has been applying for a dream. My skin feels hydrated and my no-makeup days are better than ever.

The Verdict

It’s not designed to be aesethic or glamorous, but rather to work. It smells god-awful. Like vinegar meets acetone. I smell like a vinaigrette salad and it stings a bit upon application. I personally like a tiny tingle when I use an acid because it tricks me into thinking it’s working.

That being said, I do get the hype. My overall skintone seems to be more even bright and my skin feels so soft. I have oily-combo skin and I have noticed that my t-zone doesn’t get as greasy as quickly. Will I repurchase it? Hard to say, it’s pretty steep in cost and it’s not easy to find. In the meantime, I’ll continue to use this one bottle I have and be glow goals.

Years ago, I dreamed of becoming so “successful” that I could replace everything old or used in her house. But I’ve come to realize, she never needed anything replaced. She doesn’t want a new life. She just lets me add to hers.

Anyone who’s heard me talk about my mom knows she’s the reason I understand gratitude and compassion the way I do. She’s the original project pan queen, the real sustainability influencer in my life and she still teaches me how to make the most of what you have, every single day.

I am not a hiker. Historically, I begrudgingly agree to one hike a year—and even that is usually under 3k, with the promise of brunch after. So when I agreed to the one-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I knew it would be a challenge. But I didn’t realise how hard it would be. I cried out of frustration. I was mad at myself for not being fitter, for not coping better, for not moving faster.

But with the encouragement of Ale, Robert, and the incredible @intrepidtravel crew, I kept going. One shaky, slow, stubborn step at a time. And when I finally walked through the Sun Gate and saw Machu Picchu unfold in front of me? All of it—every tear, every stair, every mental spiral—felt completely worth it.

Truly one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. And yes, I now understand why men everywhere use this view as their dating profile pic. It’s iconic.

When I first moved to Vancouver, I started blogging about the brands I’d discover at craft fairs and pop-ups. What’s so special about markets is that when you buy from a small maker, the person you’re talking to is usually the person who made it.

That’s why public events matter. Sure, I get hundreds of press releases a week—but some of the best finds are the ones that aren’t backed by PR. They’re just passionate people putting their work out there.
