SUBSCRIPTION BOX; Jiyubox Spring 2020

Picture

Look! I did it! A Jiyubox subscription box review in a timely manner. All it took was a pandemic. I swear, when this is over if I don’t miraculously have my shit together I am going to be pissed.

Jessika was kind enough to come drop off the Spring 2020 box (while practicing social distancing, of course!) and I have been using the products non stop. The theme for this box is prepping your skin for warmer weather and just because we’re stuck inside doesn’t mean it’s time to neglect skincare. Plus the Jiyubox has always been one of my favourite ways to find new clean beauty brands!

The Products

SIMPLY POLISHED Coffee Body Scrub ($22 CAD retail)
While coffee scrubs are aplenty, I love the Simply Polished because it’s from Alberta and it smells delicious. Made of locally sourced coffee, sugar, coconut oil, cinnamon and tea tree oil this scrub is non-abrasive while stimulating your skin and leaving it silky smooth. A caffeine kick for sure, this body scrub revitalizes my skin and leaves me feeling seriously spoiled.

PHYTOSURGENCE Sea Submerge Hydrating Facial Serum ($21 CAD retail)
A water-based serum, this hydrating formula is a new favourite of mine. I go through serums like no other and finding the perfect serum that not only works, but layers well with other products is a chore. I love this formula for having a bit of tack to it so it really sticks to my skin and also grips my moisturizer applied afterwards.

NUI BODY Cherry Sugar Lip Polish ($14 CAD retail)
This lip polish is so delicious. It smells just like a cherry popsicle and it polishes and nourishes my lips like no other. I don’t know about y’all, but a few weeks ago I found that my lips and skin were the driest they’ve ever been and this product really turned things around for me. It also tastes good. Win-win.

KANI BOTANICALS Pink Clay Konjac Cleansing Sponge ($13.25 CAD retail)
Prior to this I had never tried a Konjac sponge before. It is apparently a sea vegetable? Prior to wetting the sponge it feels like rock-hard but once wet it softens so much. It’s actually so impressive how well this works and can be used with a cleanser or on its own. If you haven’t picked up a Konjac sponge yet I highly recommend, this was a favourite of mine.

FIG + YARROW Eyebright Coffee Bean Eye Cream ($50.24 CAD retail)
Yowza! This product is the highest value item in the box and I constantly find myself impressed by how many high ticket items received in a Jiyubox. The packaging is so luxe (hello glass bottle) and looks so elegant on my bathroom shelf. It is super hydrating and absorbs into the skin quickly.

The Value

Picture

NOTE: This is normal a straight copy & paste from my other posts, but I have updated the cost since the price has changed since the last box.

The retail value of the spring box I received is $120.59 CAD for 5 items. I like that the box comes with a little info card with all the brands, products and costs listed so that I can determine if I think the value is there per item and contemplate the costs of repurchasing the items again if I enjoyed them.

You have three options when it comes to subscribing to Jiyubox and each box comes with 4 to 6 full size products. For the purpose of breaking down the costs I will go with the average 5 items per delivery.

  • Best value is the ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION is $318 CAD for 4 boxes ($79.50/box, $15.90/item)
  • Alternatively you can subscription for a SEASONAL SUBSCRIPTION for $85 CAD ($17/item) which auto-renews every 3 months. Note there is no contract and commitment so you can cancel before your next payment is scheduled!
  • If you want to opt for the ONE TIME PURCHASE the cost is $93 CAD ($18.60/item)

If you want to save an additional 10% off use code VICKI10 at checkout. This is just a discount code for y’all and makes me no comission whatsoever.

The Verdict

What can I say that I haven’t said before about Jiyubox? The VALUE alone makes it worth wild. This box introduced me to so many new brands because prior to receiving this box the only brand I had heard of before was Niu Body. I loved the packaging of the Fig + Yarrow and Phytosurgence and will definitely look into buying more of their products in the future.

If your sunnies are always sliding down your nose If your sunnies are always sliding down your nose and leaving surprise cheek contour… hi, same. 🙃

Turns out it’s a low bridge nose thing (super common for Asian and BIPOC folks), which explains why most frames just… don’t sit right

These from @kaytran_eyewear? They actually stay put. No slipping, no cheek marks, no makeup all over the frames from my high cheekbones doing the most.
