SUBSCRIPTION BOX; Jiyubox Winter 2019

Picture

I am so behind on beauty post because I have been regaling y’all with year, decade and unemployment updates BUT I am trying to make more of an effort to post personal, beauty, and other topics better evenly and try not to heavy one topic over another.

So that being said, my Jiyubox for winter!

The theme for this box us staying hydrated and de-stressing. Please know that this box was gifted to me but all thoughts and opinions are my own! I am also under no obligation to post in exchange for product but I have always loved to share natural beauty brands.

BUCK NAKED SOAP COMPANY Lavender & Rosemary and Lemongrass & French Clay Bath Bombs ($6.50 CAD retail / each)
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before or not but I live for a bath bomb moment. Every time I travel and get to stay in a hotel I bring a bath bomb with me because being in a fancy tub with a bath bomb is the kind of life I was meant to live. I love that this Jiyubox came with two bath bombs and the lavender one was delish – I am a sucker for lavender anything. I am heading on another trip later this week and will be bringing the lemongrass with me to Manitoba.

SALT & SEAWEED APOTHECARY Blissful Surf Lip & Skin Therapy ($18 CAD retail)
LOOK AT THIS THING! I was smitten the second I saw it because if there is something I love more than a lip balm is a giant lip balm. I have never heard of this brand before but I am a fan. It’s multipurpose and can be used on any dry spots, such as elbows, cuticles and even as brow gel or to keep baby hairs at bay! Also the scent in the box is lavender and bergamot! Yay! More lavender!

NATIVE NECTAR BOTANICALS Resurface AHA Liquid Exfoliant ($46 CAD retail)
I do not say this lightly: I love this product. This is my favourite new product, not just from this box but as of late. I often shy away from AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) because other formulas can be harsh and abrasive. If you’re not sure what a liquid exfoliant is, think of those scrub exfoliants, but instead of texture it works by using chemicals instead. I love how luxe this product is, it’s in a glass bottle with a dropper applicator and there has been a noticeable improvement in my skin’s texture!

SOUKENBERI Nourishing Hair Oil ($37 CAD retail)
Woah! Y’all – this is the first hair product in a Jiyubox and I, for one, am living for it. I don’t get hair products often since I find hair products last longer than other beauty products so I was excited to try something new. This hair oil is incredibly luxe and I love the slip to it. My hair is on the healthier side so I use very little of this oil on dry hair but I also love it on damp hair to create a sleek look while blowdrying.

SCENTUALS Grapefruit Turmeric Hand Repair Cream ($11.50 CAD retail)
This is my second tube of this hand cream and I love how rich it is. It has shea and cocoa butter, plus argan oil so it is HELLA moisturizing – perfect for winter months. I will be the first to admit that I always forget to use hand cream and my hands don’t get enough love but I have been trying to make more of an effort to use products up in 2020 and I have made it a goal to finish this in 2020.

(And no, it’s not yellow – that was what I was worried about when I first got this hand cream and was convinced I would turn a slight tinge of yellow.)

The Value

Picture

The retail value of the winter box I received is $125.50 CAD for 5 items. I like that the box comes with a little info card with all the brands, products and costs listed so that I can determine if I think the value is there per item and contemplate the costs of repurchasing the items again if I enjoyed them.

You have three options when it comes to subscribing to Jiyubox and each box comes with 4 to 6 full size products. For the purpose of breaking down the costs I will go with the average 5 items per delivery.

  • Best value is the ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION is $293.20 CAD for 4 boxes ($73.30/box, $14.66/item)
  • Alternatively you can subscription for a SEASONAL SUBSCRIPTION for $78.54 CAD ($15.71/item) which auto-renews every 3 months. Note there is no contract and commitment so you can cancel before your next payment is scheduled!
  • If you want to opt for the ONE TIME PURCHASE the cost is $85.08 CAD ($17.02/item)

If you want to save an additional 10% off use code VICKI10 at checkout. This is just a discount code for y’all and makes me no commission whatsoever.

The Verdict

I loved this box! One of my faves for sure, if only for the hair oil and the AHA liquid exfoliater. This box introduced me to a lot of new brands (Scentuals is the only brand I knew beforehand) and I am looking forward to follow along with these brands more.

This box was centered around self-care and pampering yourself and I have always appreciated the fun themes of each box. While this box is on the pricey side, Jiyubox has recently launched a shop on their site so you can buy each product individually if you’re not keen on a box!

(And yes, my code will work on single items too!)

When I first moved to Vancouver, I started blogging about the brands I’d discover at craft fairs and pop-ups. What’s so special about markets is that when you buy from a small maker, the person you’re talking to is usually the person who made it.

That’s why public events matter. Sure, I get hundreds of press releases a week—but some of the best finds are the ones that aren’t backed by PR. They’re just passionate people putting their work out there.
