Sustainable Valentine Gift Ideas

I’m a treat yo’ self kind of bitch because if you’re not going to spend your money on you, who will? I love spoiling myself year round, but around Valentine’s Day it’s extra sweet because my favourite person in the world is me (it’s probably actually Zendaya, but for the purpose of V-day let’s say that it’s me.) But can you treat yourself and the planet right at the same time? Of course you can, with my top sustainable self-loving Valentine’s Day picks below.

Henrie. Upgrade your sleep in a major way with Henrie pillows ($179 for a standard/queen). What makes the Henrie so special is that it is fully customizable with a filling that can be removed based on your comfort level. The pillow is filled with both memory foam and all-natural kapok in loose chunks so it maintains it shapes better than other fully memory foam pillows. I also love that the cover is removable so you can wash it regularly to keep your sleep as fresh as it is restful. Prior to getting a Henrie I had gone through countless pillows that have lost their shape, were firm but never seemed to relax, or just poorly made and not in it for the long-haul. Since getting the Henrie I have never slept better, neck pain who? Not me.

True & You. What’s a better gift to give yourself than something customized specifically for your needs? As someone who tries countless skincare, it’s impressive whenever I can finish a product and I went through my True & You mask ($65) in no time at all. The base is a refreshing glacial clay base with hydrating oils and vitamins and you get to add any two boosters depending on your skin needs; hydrate, calm, detox, brighten and rejuvenate. Not all clay masks are made alike and this formula is hydrating and cleansing without drying down to a painful rock hard finish and always leaves my skin feeling fresh. My go-to combo is the detoxifying and the brightening boosters.

Lush. They say size doesn’t matter, it’s what you do with it, but Lush said “why not both?” Their eggplant bath bomb ($14.95) was supersized this year at an astonishing nine inches long that is sure to make a splash during your next soak. Plus it transforms your bath into a ho wood oil and tonka, purple and blue marbled dream come true. Psychedelic bathtub ready, Lush bath bombs are always a delight but this JUMBO sized bath bomb is extra delightful. It’s large enough to be split for two baths or thrown in all at once for a shared or solo bath time.

Graydon Skincare. Shower yourself with love this Valentine’s Day with Graydon Skincare’s Intimacy Oil ($49), a luxe dry body oil with a velvety finish without being too heavy (I love it after I shave my legs!). It is also lightweight enough to use in your hair to smooth split ends and flyaways. Plus every bottle sold $1 is donated to organizations that support LGBTQ2S+ and marginalized youths.

Womanizer. You gotta love that we can demand more sustainable options from all of our products, including your sexual wellness products. The Womanizer ($219) has a bit of a cult following with its ergonomic design and thoughtful design for an optimal experience for those with vulvas. Did you know that it comes in an eco friendly version? It’s made from sustainable and renewable materials, who knew loving the planet could be so pleasurable?

Rove Kyoto feels less like a traditional coworking space and more like somewhere you actually want to spend your day.

Inspired by Japanese minimalism, the design-forward space is built around calm and focused work environments, with warm wood, soft lighting, thoughtful details, quiet corners, and pieces from the Rove Concepts Kyoto Collection throughout, including standing desks that somehow make answering emails feel slightly more zen.

And on weekends, the space shifts into something entirely different: a lounge experience centred around matcha and Japanese-inspired hospitality.

Rove Kyoto opens May 30 in Vancouver. #RoveKyoto

Last June, I went on a life-changing trip to Peru Last June, I went on a life-changing trip to Peru with @intrepidtravel . We did the big adventures, like walking up to the Sun Gates at Machu Picchu, exploring the Amazon, and connecting with the local community.

But beyond the adventure, the trip also created a meaningful impact. It’s easy to think travel is just about what you take from a place. But sometimes, it’s also about what your presence gives back.

A simple lunch at AMA in the Sacred Valley turned into something more. Not just because it was a great meal, but because of the people behind it, mothers building a livelihood while caring for their kids, and a space that supports both.

That’s what makes trips like this feel so meaningful. The experiences stay with you, but so do the people, and the small ways your visit contributes.

That’s what The Intrepid Effect looks like to me: responsible travel that creates a positive effect in the local community long after I head home. What does it look like to you?

It might sound cheesy, but people cheering for you actually does help. I’m also so grateful to the @runasyouare community for not only supporting me through my race but their open invite to be a part of their cheer squad year after year. Tell me who else is going to book a DJ and a choir for a cheering station?!
