Every year I eagerly await finding out what Pantone’s colour of the year is and this year they did not disappoint. With boosters rolling out and life starting to feel a *bit* (knock on wood) normal again, I was hoping for a hue that was optimistic and radiant. According to Pantone, Very Peri “helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives.”
Very Peri lives up to it’s name with a rich shade of periwinkle and this colour is the cool blue-toned cool grown-up version of summer’s lilac. While I’m scared to become a purple girl (we all know one – the type to make purple being your fave colour a personality trait) but a periwinkle babe? I’m ready. Below are some of my beauty picks to get into a very peri state of mind. (Also see my Canadian ethical fashion picks here!)
The easiest way to add a new colour to your beauty routine is through nail colour. I have been a long-time fan of the Gelcare gel polish and the Granite Purple ($24) is the perfect shade of the hour. Not much of a gel polish babe? Don’t worry, I gotchu. The OPI Show Us Your Tips! ($13) is a gorgeous shimmer available at most drugstores.
Did you know Anastasia of Anastasia Beverly Hills has a daughter who is a makeup enthusiasts herself? Claudia Soare, also known as Norvina, is known for her colourful eye makeup looks and signature purple hair and has her own line within ABH. One of her first ABH products is her namesake Norvina eyeshadow palette ($60), a stunning mix of purples, pinks and neutrals.
While a lot of the r.e.m. beauty left a lot to be desired, the highlighter topper was gorgeous. It’s a great beginner highligher that leaves a subtle glow-from-within look instead of a blinding highlight and from what I’ve seen on TikTok, the iridescent lavender, Miss Neptune ($22 USD) is where it’s at. Pale lavender highligher is best suited for very fair skin tones, but like with any beauty, choose your own adventure. You do you, babez.
If you’re not on to the Dior Lip Gloss yet, what are you waiting for? It applies like a gloss, hydrates like a balm and comes in so many shades. The Stellar shade is the shade. Let me put you on something, this iridescent blue pink looks soft and pink on the lips but the slight flecks of blue keep bring out the white in your teeth making it the perfect shade of pink. Don’t let the purple shade fool you – gorgeous, gorgeous girls wear the Dior Addict Stellar Lip Gloss ($40).
Okay, this isn’t necessarily a periwinkle blush but I couldn’t resist raving about this cool-toned purple blush. While purple blush is not for everyone (ahem, white folks) this blush is the colour of colour. When blended in properly the Nudestix Moodie Blu ($37) is the perfect flush and a subtle way to add purple to your look.
