Every year I eagerly await finding out what Pantone’s colour of the year is and this year they did not disappoint. With boosters rolling out and life starting to feel a *bit* (knock on wood) normal again, I was hoping for a hue that was optimistic and radiant. According to Pantone, Very Peri “helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives.”
Very Peri lives up to it’s name with a rich shade of periwinkle and this colour is the cool blue-toned cool grown-up version of summer’s lilac. While I’m scared to become a purple girl (we all know one – the type to make purple being your fave colour a personality trait) but a periwinkle babe? I’m ready. Below are some of my ethical fashion picks to get into a very peri state of mind. (Also see my beauty picks here!)
My Nettle’s Tale lounge set is my ultimate cool-girl running errands fit. Not only is it super soft, it’s also made ethically and sustainability in Vancouver with a XS to 4X size range. While we might be chomping at the bit to get back to “regular” life, I wont be giving up my sweatsuits anytime soon and the Nettle’s Tale is one of my faves. I have the cream set in the Cove Pant ($89) and the Cove Zip Crew ($95) but let me tell y’all I am TEMPTED by their newest colourway, Mist. I don’t know how they just knew that periwinkle would be the colour of the year but it’s exactly Very Peri.
Think of Park & Fifth as the Canadian cousin of Reformation. This Vancouver based brand focuses on timeless silhouettes and sustainability through all of their collections. While they’re known for their bridal and bridal party dresses, don’t sleep on Park & Fifth because they also have an extensive “Social Occasions” category. While my Park & Fifth pick isn’t technically periwinkle, it’s close enough to be on trend while being a classic hue that will be wearable for years to come. If you’re a busty babe like myself, I cannot recommend the Waldorf Dress ($175) enough. A bias-cut lined cowl neck dress is an instant wardrobe stable while a removable tie-belt lets you cinch that waist.
This past holiday season was my excuse/opportunity to do a major intimates purge. For years I fell into that fast-fashion mentality that undies should just be cute and cheap instead of comfy and sustainable. When looking to restock my collection Blush Lingerie was a lifesaver. They have a variety of deals like two bralettes for $33 and three undies for $33, but somehow manages to create sustainable and cute pieces. Their Micro Lace Trim Bralette ($25) has me convinced that I may never wear a “real” bra again.
Not really one to experiment with colour? I get it, it can feel a bit intimidating for sure. I find that introducing bright and bold colours to your workout clothing is the best way to start. While a colourful dress might feel bold to some, a colourful pair of leggings is somehow much more approachable. Want it in this year’s it colour? I gotchu. Knix makes these gorgeous high-rise leggings with compression and an extra-wide waistband to stay in place, no matter how you move.
Need another approachable way to infuse some colour to your attire? Try a fun pair of shoes. I believe that if you’re a neutrals/classics type of person, a cool shoe is what takes your look from cookie cutter to stylish AF. Think about. A plain tee with jeans and white sneakers? Pretty classic. The same outfit with a colourful sneaker? That’s a cool babe look. If you’re not buying Maguire yet, this is your chance to add some ethically made kicks to your rotation at a steal of a deal with the Malaga in Ultraviolet ($120) that are currently on sale. Can someone go buy the 37s so I am not tempted to add more Maguire to my shoe collection?
