First it was trying microdermbrasion, now it’s microcurrents. I am laughing at the first sentence of my microdermabrasion post about being on day 11 of self-isolation and feeling cooped up. Like girl, you don’t even know how drastic it’s about to get.
But getting back to the point, I am a sucker for a seemingly gimmicky product and the NuFACE has been on my list of “would love to try” devices.
What are the benefits of microcurrents?
It is a procedure that gently stimulates the larger surface area of your face and neck to improve facial contour and tone, and look of fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is considered minimally invasive. It also aids in the following:
- Retrains the facial muscles for improved facial contour
- Boost blood circulation
- Helps products penetrate deeper
- Increases collagen production and elasticity
Essentially I want to look sculpted as fuck.
NuFACE Mini Facial Toning Device
NuFACE does come at a hefty price tag ($238 for the mini at Sephora) it does occasionally go on sale on their own site as well as some of their authorized retailers like Indigo. I bought mine from Fig Face, which saved me a bit of cash (they have it priced at $229) and they had a promotion that including getting a free $100+ facial with the device. I’m just saying: you can be bougie and support local business.
The device comes with a Hydrating Leave-On Gel Primer that also works as a conductor gel. A quick Google search says that any conductivity gel would be a proper substitute and that the device should never be used without a gel. Something to keep in mind with the cost is that this product will continue to cost you $$ because a gel is needed.
The Process
It feels like mildly shocking your face. Similar sensation to static electricity or like tiny elastics snapping on your face. The mini device has three intensities, and truth be told, the third level was a little painful.
After applying a thick layer of the gel, you glide the device along the contours of your face a maximum of 3 times with some sections that just need you to hold the device along your skin.
The gel is advertised as a leave-on but I found it so thick that I preferred to wash it off after use. It was so thick that my skin felt like it couldn’t breath.
The Results
They ask you for a lot when you first start using the device. They recommend that you use it 5 times per week the first 60 days and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance after that. I’m going to level with y’all – I definitely don’t use it that much so I can’t speak to the 3 month long effectiveness of this. I’m just a fool that loves to waste her money on dumb shit.
Okay, so maybe I need to sharpen up my camera resolution, it’s a bit blurry and I definitely should have run a brush through my hair prior to snapping these pics, but they’ll do.
Immediately after use my skin feel more taught yet plump. After a week of use I definitely noticed more definition around my jawline and cheekbones. I can’t really speak to its effectiveness on fine lines and wrinkles because I have baby smooth skin (SPF and water y’all) but having the device is a nice routine to add to my skincare regime.
Would I recommend purchasing this? If your budget allows for it, it does provide results and I have found myself looking forward to a little TLC (albeit, not daily because I tend to forget to do it if I don’t leave it somewhere I can see it.) While it’s not as drastic as going in for in spa-treatment, it does the job well enough to see results with continuous use.
